Southeast Asia Wants Doha Round Resumed

Manila, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) The Association of Southeast Asian Nations called on Monday to resume negotiations of the World Trade Organization's Development Agenda, known as the Doha Round, supporting Laos' WTO membership and applauding that of Vietnam.
The 40th ASEAN ministerial meeting final declaration "conveys its will to help advance the Round of Doha in every field for the benefit of all members, particularly the developing countries."
The Doha Round has stagnated since last year over divergent tariffs and agricultural subsidies, basically among the US, EU, Japan, Australia, Brazil and India.
The foreign ministers of Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam will set up a single market.
The ministers also lauded the completion of the ASEAN Economic Community guidelines to be submitted to the 13th ASEAN Summit in Singapore in November and become operational in 2015.
